‘A quirky name for a quirky shop’

This is the home of museum inspired interiors. A concept born from Clare Flynn, Director of 3 Legged Duck Ltd specialising in investor-led property design and exhibition and display design.

Created in 2020, 3 Legged Duck Interiors shop was an eclectic, museum inspired, interior design shop selling antiques, vintage and retro.

‘A quirky name for a quirky shop’ Tim Wonnacott, Antiques Road Trip.

3 Legged Duck was on Antiques Road Trip in September 2021. It was great fun having the film crew in the shop for the day and yes we really did do the deal!

The shop has now ceased trading but the museum inspired approach to interiors lives on.

Clare Flynn is continuing her career in exhibition and display design.

She is also following her love of all things property as a consultant in the investor-led property design sector.

Here is a selection of Clare’s favourite museum inspired buys from the 3 Legged Duck Interiors shop archive  – all now in the hands of new owners:

  • SOLD An anthropomorphic taxidermy study of a stoat with red bicycle. Needless to say- there is bundles of personality to this piece- you can’t get much quirkier. Please request a delivery quote by filling out the form below or contact us separately- thank you
  • SOLD A Chinese lacquer box dates from the Shih Mau republic period Foochow (Finyhou) with gold inlaid decoration in the form of birds and floral foliage, adorned with low handles. Price includes UK mainland postage.
  • SOLD Early 20th century copper coal box with textured brickwork. I had to buy this because it is so unusual and curiously conjured visions of Mary Poppins and Burt dancing on the roof tops of London singing 'Step in time'! Price includes UK mainland postage.
  • SOLD This is a 19th century Indian silvered copper pail. Pretty as a planter- decorated with arabesques and mounted with swing handle. Price includes UK mainland postage. Dimensions given are with handle down.
  • SOLD A pair of Edwardian mirrored handle sconces with lapidary cut edges. The Edwardian era of British history spanned the reign of King Edward VII, 1901 to 1910, and is sometimes expanded to the start of the First World War. Edwardian design is an exuberant, flamboyant Neo-Baroque style. Price includes UK mainland postage.

SOLD Handmade rag bunting exclusively made for and in collaboration with 3LD by Bobbi Handmade. Bobbi is local to Rhayader and designs and makes children’s clothing. I showed Bobbi a photo of rag bunting at Gifford’s Circus and to my delight she had made similar for her wedding. This is a fantastic way of creating a decorative item out of normally discarded fabric which is attached to 2.5 metre long super strong natural yachting cord. Also available in mustard yellows/earthy tones. Price includes UK mainland postage.

SOLD Pair of antique Russian painted papier mache Kovsh circa 1910 with bird finials. The Kovsh is a traditional drinking vessel or ladle from Russia. It was oval-shaped like a boat with a single handle and may be shaped like a water bird or a Norse longship. Price includes UK mainland postage.
  • Scratch built model diorama of a man enjoying his garden railway. Do you have childhood memories of visiting model villages? I do. The wonderful intriguing world of creating in miniature. This piece is a delight and given pride of place in our shop in Rhayader for all to see.
  • SOLD High quality item and sought after with relief carved arabesques and inlaid decoration on hexagonal folding base. Price includes delivery to UK mainland.
  • SOLD This sign makes me smile. Will bring a playful tone to any interior which I believe to be the reason anything fairground and circus is so popular. Please request a delivery quote by filling out the form below or contact us separately- thank you.
  • SOLD Two decorated Qing Period Chinese lacquer boxes. They are made from beautifully in a cylinder with bright red orange lacquer creating a funky interior vibe. Price includes delivery to UK mainland. Dimensions given are rating to largest box.

This 20th century carved large mother of pearl shell decorated with arabesques would look fabulous grouped with other curiosities or under a glass dome.
  • SOLD In more modern times this piece has been converted from a vase to a lamp. The champleve cloisonne enamel quatrefoil cylindrical base dates from the 19th century. The obvious signs of wear and tear do not detract from the stunning floral and bamboo decoration. It has been rewired with a gold twisted fabric flex for an opulent feel. Price includes delivery to UK mainland.

  • Early 1900's cushioned antique wall mirror with decorative details impressed into the metal. This is of a good size and would suit most settings.
  • SOLD This Chas. Baker & Co. tailor's advertising chair dates from the mid to late 19th century, possibly early 20th. It is made in mahogany with a gentleman’s trouser press concealed in the back. Following the opening of their first store in 1864, they expanded across London until the company were forced to close due to the outbreak of WWII in 1939. There was a boom in the British textile industry in the mid-late 19th century and the clothing trade was a very competitive business. Chas. Baker & Co were innovative in the world of advertising with decorative maps of London and printed leaflets. This great piece of history would look fab in a gentleman's tailors or equally good in a design studio. Price includes UK mainland delivery.
  • SOLD A highly quirky chest of drawers. These boat cabin steps with drawers incorporated into the step risers were specially commissioned. They have sailed many nautical miles and have only had one lady owner! The outer stair structure is made of solid oak and the drawers are oak veneered to lessen the overall weight. They are well worn as you can expect from their former function but I think this adds to their charm. They would suit a useful and unusual addition to a country style kitchen, studio space or bedroom. They would be perfect as a set of steps to a mezzanine floor and with combined storage they are suited to small spaces. Personally, I would use the steps for display and the drawers to store less accessed belongings.

  • A pair of brass and copper mounted wrought iron candle holders on scrolled tripod support in the style of WAS Benson. There is a flower missing to the stem of one holder so the price reflects this as they would normally retail for up to £400.

SOLD A pair of reproduction Chinese railway signs cast in aluminium. I bought these knowing full well that the paint work quality isn't great and they are priced to reflect this. What is undeniable though is the visual appeal as wall mounted pieces. Great colours, retro date and oozing unusual cool!

SOLD Highly unusual French antique architectural salvage dating from the 19th century which is believed to be a chimney topper. Stunning pierced metal body and original crackled paint patina. Picture this on a grand French chateau. Probably used to prevent birds nesting. A fantastically decorative piece which would look simply amazing with internal lighting.

SOLD Oak 1930s Art Deco tall boy with beautiful tortoise shell knobs, useful shelves and a single drawer. Elegant detailing with curved corners and decorative knob surrounds.

SOLD This is a fab piece of eye-catching shop display. I believe it is very new but the apothecary hand painted signage has been exceptionally well executed. The typographic style has an essence of carnival, fairground and circus sign writing. The price reflects that this is a modern reproduction.

SOLD I positively love the atomic age (late 40s–early 60s) and this piece, although probably dating from late 60s early 70s takes inspiration from this era. This is an original and rare Mid century modern tallboy dresser by White & Newton. A beautifully designed piece in solid & veneered teak wood with atomic style ebonised knobs and retro dansette legs (ebonised wood legs with brass feet caps).

    SOLD
This is an amazing antique 17th century sword chest. What has this swashbuckling item seen and heard over the centuries? It has even been converted to a toolbox at some point and has evidence of being used as a work bench. The remnants of paint and accidental marks only add to the story of this piece.
It has only been in the shop for a couple of weeks with many admirers and has recently sold!
