‘A quirky name for a quirky shop’

This is the home of museum inspired interiors. A concept born from Clare Flynn, Director of 3 Legged Duck Ltd specialising in investor-led property design and exhibition and display design.

Created in 2020, 3 Legged Duck Interiors shop was an eclectic, museum inspired, interior design shop selling antiques, vintage and retro.

‘A quirky name for a quirky shop’ Tim Wonnacott, Antiques Road Trip.

3 Legged Duck was on Antiques Road Trip in September 2021. It was great fun having the film crew in the shop for the day and yes we really did do the deal!

The shop has now ceased trading but the museum inspired approach to interiors lives on.

Clare Flynn is continuing her career in exhibition and display design.

She is also following her love of all things property as a consultant in the investor-led property design sector.

Here is a selection of Clare’s favourite museum inspired buys from the 3 Legged Duck Interiors shop archive  – all now in the hands of new owners:

  • A pair of brass and copper mounted wrought iron candle holders on scrolled tripod support in the style of WAS Benson. There is a flower missing to the stem of one holder so the price reflects this as they would normally retail for up to £400.

This beautifully turned wooden stupa was probably made for the souvenir market opens to reveal a small well. A stupa is a structure in a Buddhist temple that contains religious relics.

SOLD This is such a cute piece of welsh folk art. It is full of rustic charm with worn paint patina and has a fab, heraldic style dragon motif.
  • Out of stock
SOLD This vintage tapestry 'Vesuvius from the Bay of Naples' table runner would traditionally have been hung. I think they are fab as table decoration or indeed anything that requires a throw over cover.
  • Out of stock
SOLD A pair of reproduction Chinese railway signs cast in aluminium. I bought these knowing full well that the paint work quality isn't great and they are priced to reflect this. What is undeniable though is the visual appeal as wall mounted pieces. Great colours, retro date and oozing unusual cool!
  • Out of stock
SOLD Uber stylish gilt and oak framed vintage round mirror  from a ‘fine’ mirror maker Atsonea.

Sorry, this item has SOLD This Moroccan hanging lantern is handcrafted pierced brass and ovoid shaped with multicoloured glass. Probably dates from the 70s or later.

This is a repurposed Victorian door with brass door fittings.   It has been given a new lease of life with the addition of Arts and Crafts style vintage coat hooks. There are brass mirror plates for secure fixing to a wall.
  • SOLD High quality item and sought after with relief carved arabesques and inlaid decoration on hexagonal folding base. Price includes delivery to UK mainland.
  • SOLD An anthropomorphic taxidermy study of a stoat with red bicycle. Needless to say- there is bundles of personality to this piece- you can’t get much quirkier. Please request a delivery quote by filling out the form below or contact us separately- thank you
  • SOLD This Chas. Baker & Co. tailor's advertising chair dates from the mid to late 19th century, possibly early 20th. It is made in mahogany with a gentleman’s trouser press concealed in the back. Following the opening of their first store in 1864, they expanded across London until the company were forced to close due to the outbreak of WWII in 1939. There was a boom in the British textile industry in the mid-late 19th century and the clothing trade was a very competitive business. Chas. Baker & Co were innovative in the world of advertising with decorative maps of London and printed leaflets. This great piece of history would look fab in a gentleman's tailors or equally good in a design studio. Price includes UK mainland delivery.
  • Scratch built model diorama of a man enjoying his garden railway. Do you have childhood memories of visiting model villages? I do. The wonderful intriguing world of creating in miniature. This piece is a delight and given pride of place in our shop in Rhayader for all to see.

SOLD This is a rustic scratch built continental rustic pine cabinet with a charming hand painted motif of sycamore leaves. The back panel is made from a printed wooden storage crate.
  • SOLD A highly quirky chest of drawers. These boat cabin steps with drawers incorporated into the step risers were specially commissioned. They have sailed many nautical miles and have only had one lady owner! The outer stair structure is made of solid oak and the drawers are oak veneered to lessen the overall weight. They are well worn as you can expect from their former function but I think this adds to their charm. They would suit a useful and unusual addition to a country style kitchen, studio space or bedroom. They would be perfect as a set of steps to a mezzanine floor and with combined storage they are suited to small spaces. Personally, I would use the steps for display and the drawers to store less accessed belongings.

An enamel painted metal North Indian or Persian vase. A beautiful decorative piece with naively painted with melon shaped design.

SOLD These are very cute vintage oriental carved nephrite stone turtles. Possibly designed as a belt (but perhaps too short to function as one), this set looks fab hanging on the wall.
  • Out of stock
SOLD This is a fab piece of eye-catching shop display. I believe it is very new but the apothecary hand painted signage has been exceptionally well executed. The typographic style has an essence of carnival, fairground and circus sign writing. The price reflects that this is a modern reproduction.

SOLD I positively love the atomic age (late 40s–early 60s) and this piece, although probably dating from late 60s early 70s takes inspiration from this era. This is an original and rare Mid century modern tallboy dresser by White & Newton. A beautifully designed piece in solid & veneered teak wood with atomic style ebonised knobs and retro dansette legs (ebonised wood legs with brass feet caps).

This 20th century carved large mother of pearl shell decorated with arabesques would look fabulous grouped with other curiosities or under a glass dome.

SOLD This fabulous piece of 1920s workmanship would have been made for the industrial office. A fantastic feature is the rotating wheel of hooks. Would look magnificent in any hallway (with a fairly high ceiling as it stands at nearly 7ft tall!).

SOLD This is a late 19th century country made mahogany arm chair with a beautiful curved shape. When you look closely it looks like it has been in a Wild West showdown with multiple repairs! The repairs are good and strong though with no movement. This one is a survivor :)

SOLD This is a uniquely designed piece which has been finely made in mahogany. It was commonly seen in solicitors offices, libraries or Schools in Britain in the 1920s. A highly practical bookcase made in three stacked sections. Indeed, this fairly large furniture item is very easy to disassemble and transport. Flat-pack furniture has been around for years, centuries even!
  • SOLD A pair of Edwardian mirrored handle sconces with lapidary cut edges. The Edwardian era of British history spanned the reign of King Edward VII, 1901 to 1910, and is sometimes expanded to the start of the First World War. Edwardian design is an exuberant, flamboyant Neo-Baroque style. Price includes UK mainland postage.
  • SOLD Early 20th century copper coal box with textured brickwork. I had to buy this because it is so unusual and curiously conjured visions of Mary Poppins and Burt dancing on the roof tops of London singing 'Step in time'! Price includes UK mainland postage.

SOLD This very pretty Japanese Cloisonne Koro dates from the late 19th/early 20th century (Meiji period). A 'koro' is a squat broad-mouthed usually covered jar used mostly as an incense burner.
