Description
WHY I BOUGHT THIS ….
… this is a chest of 110 drawers each with the watch part engraved into the brass cup. Each drawer is blind tooled with a number inside corresponding to a number hand written in the chest carcass. These drawers are in untouched condition from the day they came out of the watchmakers. What a treasure!
Watchmaker’s / craft drawers condition report:
These watchmakers/ craft drawers are in well used condition with lots of marks. There is no damage to the main carcass and the structure is sound. The outer boxing was painted at some point and has peeled and worn away in most places. The backing has been added at a much later date and has had water damage at some point but thankfully this did not affect the original section. Some drawer trays have damage or splits to the wood but they are all in working order. All handles are fixed firmly with no movement.

Understanding more about these watchmaker’s/ craft drawers:
This wonderful set of drawers came to me with a few watch parts left in them. The watchmakers only closed down in 2017/18 and had been used for many years for the same purpose. Made at a time, despite the Industrial Revolution, when the high street was peppered with bookbinders, tanners, tailors, and other specialist makers. Since then, of course, times have changed immensely, but I feel the desire to own handmade items is still as strong. Makers/creatives crave to be surrounded by things that bear the mark of human interaction and have a story to tell. The previous owner tells me these watchmaker/ apothecary cabinet drawers were full of the best watch parts including Rolex! I am sure that its future owner will fill it with lots of interesting items and will hopefully get a lot of use and enjoyment out of it.
